How much RAM do you need for your computer?

RAM or random access memory, is one of the most important parts of your computer. But how many GB is enough? The selection of the RAM depends on two factors - what do you want to use (watch movies, gaming or graphic design, etc) and how much you can spend.

1. What is RAM?

You can imagine RAM is the top part of a desk where you're letting the papers need to solve (this paper can be handled at the same time). Meanwhile, the hard drive can understand like the drawers under the desk work where they can store all of your things like tools, documents you don't want to use, etc.
The bigger the ram capacity, the more programs your computer can handle at the same time.

Computers with larger ram capacity handle faster? This is not accurate, it's the same as you expand the size of the table, it's only helping your computer to process more work at the same time, not increasing the speed of the process.

2. How much RAM do you have?

On windows 10, go to Settings > System > About. In device specifications, you'll see the RAM line. Note that if your system type is listed as a 32-bit operating system, you can only use 4GB regardless of how much is inside. You'll need a version 64-bit version to use more.

3. How much RAM do you need?

 1. 2GB

You can hardly find a modern computer with 2GB. Although this number will be able to process work on a simple task at a time, such as basic browsing, anything but simple multitasking will be extremely slow. You should upgrade it as soon as possible.

2. 4GB

4GB is considered basic for most computers. Although this standard is now moving to 8GB, you'll still find some cheap computers associated with 4GB memory.
4GB is enough if you only use computers for basic tasks, like browsing, text processing, or sending emails. This is not enough for modern video games and will be difficult if you open multiple chrome tabs or run many programs at once.

3. 8GB

Most of the computers you can find now have 8GB of RAM. 8GB is a good standard. It's enough to do a lot of tasks at the same time without slowing down and enough to play games.
You might want to get more ram if you regularly edit 4k video, stream the high-level video games to Twitch. But if you're not a computer user for heavy tasks, 8GB will work well.

4. 16GB

16GB is really good if you use computers for heavy tasks. Software design, editing video, and modern games will run really smoothly with 16GB.

However, 16GB is more than necessary if you do not perform these tasks. People who only open a few browser tabs and don't play video games or work with large media files can use less.

5. 32GB

The memory from 32GB is just necessary for special users. If you regularly edit the high-quality 4k video and want to work on multiple tasks, you'll need a large amount of memory. For most other users, it's a waste and you can spend that money to upgrade your pc in a more useful way.

Ending

4GB is minimum for computers using windows, 8GB will meet most of the user's needs and a bigger amount of RAM is more likely to meet some special works, such as a 3d video game or graphic designers, coders, etc.
